Applied Knowledge Level

The Applied Knowledge exams introduce learners to the finance field, building a strong foundation in accounting principles. The exams include:

  1. Business and Technology (BT) Gain insights into businesses in the digital era, emphasizing technology’s role in shaping strategies and structures. Learn about data management, IT systems, emerging technologies, and their influence on decision-making and efficiency.
  2. Financial Accounting (FA) Learn financial accounting and reporting principles, preparing and interpreting financial statements while ensuring compliance. Develop skills to analyze financial information.
  3. Management Accounting (MA) Master techniques for management decision-making, including planning, controlling, and evaluating performance. Topics cover cost accounting, budgeting, variance analysis, and performance measurement to aid in strategic decisions.

Applied Skills Level

The Applied Skills exams build on foundational knowledge, fostering versatile, practical financial skills crucial for strategic professional accountants across sectors and industries. The exams include:

  1. Corporate and Business Law (LW) (MYS variant) Learn the legal framework for businesses, understanding principles and regulations affecting business activities. Topics cover corporate governance, contract law, employment law, and Company Act for compliance and informed legal decisions.
  2. Performance Management (PM) Focus on utilizing and controlling information, management information systems, and data analytics for performance management. Master specialized costing and management accounting topics, decision-making, resource allocation, pricing, risk management, and budgeting techniques. The syllabus also emphasizes performance measurement and control, preparing students for Advanced Performance Management (APM).
  3. Taxation (TX) (MYS variant) Acquire comprehensive knowledge of tax principles, including income tax, real property gains tax, and indirect taxes. Learn to identify tax liabilities, prepare tax computations, and advise on tax-efficient strategies while ensuring compliance.
  4. Financial Reporting (FR) Develop skills in applying IFRS Accounting Standards and preparing financial statements, including group entities, while analyzing and interpreting them. The syllabus covers the Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting, the regulatory framework, and standard-setting process. It also addresses financial and non-financial information analysis, serving as a foundation for SBR.
  5. Audit and Assurance (AA) Study auditing and assurance principles and practices, focusing on audit planning, risk assessment, audit evidence, reporting, and ethical and professional standards. Upon completing Knowledge & Skills Papers and the Ethics and Professional Skills Module (EPSM), students receive an ACCA Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business.

Strategic Professional

The Strategic Professional exams prepare learners for leadership roles by developing strategic insight, technical, ethical, and professional competencies. Students complete both Essential exams and select two Options, tailoring their learning to career aspirations. The exams include:

Strategic Professional Essentials

  1. Strategic Business Leader (SBL) Develop strategic leadership skills, focusing on governance, risk management, emerging issues, technologies, and strategic decision-making. Students synthesize technical, ethical, and professional skills to analyze complex scenarios and recommend solutions for organizational success. From September 2023, pre-seen case content will be provided prior to exams.
  2. Strategic Business Reporting (SBR) Build on Applied Skills knowledge to prepare and analyze financial reports for various entities. Examine corporate reporting, assess implications of management decisions, and apply IFRS in corporate reports. Explore corporate report usefulness, narrative reporting, and accounting standard deficiencies.

Strategic Professional Options (Choose 2)

  1. Advanced Financial Management (AFM) Focus on advanced financial management topics, such as corporate restructuring, risk management, and international finance. Develop skills to evaluate strategic financial decisions and provide expert advice on financial management issues.
  2. Advanced Taxation (ATX) Apply advanced taxation principles, focusing on tax systems, compliance, and planning for individuals, businesses, and groups. Learn about Trust, Investment Holding, Tax Incentives, REIT, Unit Trusts, Stamp Duty, Business Restructuring, and advanced Real Property Gains Tax aspects.
  3. Advanced Audit & Assurance (AAA) Deepen understanding of audit and assurance services, focusing on complex and specialized assurance engagements. Develop skills to evaluate professional and ethical issues, design audit strategies, and provide high-quality assurance services in various contexts.
  4. Advanced Performance Management (APM) Emphasize the strategic role of management accounting in achieving objectives. Address external factors, risks, performance management information systems, technology influences, and high-level performance measurement techniques.
